Why I wrote “The Man Who Stayed”

People often ask me why I decided to write The Man Who Stayed.

The answer is simple: over the last 13+ years in investment banking, I have had the privilege of working closely with thousands of founders, startups, and entrepreneurs. During this journey, I witnessed something that stayed with me.

Many founders do not fail because they lack intelligence, passion, or great ideas. They struggle because they are forced to navigate difficult decisions, unexpected setbacks, broken relationships, financial pressure, and moments of self-doubt that nobody prepares them for.

I have seen founders spend years building something from scratch, only to watch it fall apart because of one overlooked decision. I have seen friendships tested, families affected, dreams delayed, and confidence shaken. Yet, I have also seen extraordinary resilience: the ability to get back up, rebuild, and continue moving forward.

I did not want to write another business book filled with theories, frameworks, and startup jargon. I wanted to tell a story.

A story that would make readers feel what it is like to chase a dream when the odds are stacked against you.

Through Rishi's journey, I wanted to explore themes that go far beyond startups: ambition, friendship, sacrifice, perseverance, heartbreak, hope, and the emotional cost of building something meaningful. While the book is set against the backdrop of entrepreneurship, its heart lies in the human experiences that all of us can relate to.

The Man Who Stayed is for every person who has ever worked late into the night on a dream nobody else could see.

It is for those who have faced rejection, questioned themselves, lost confidence, started over, or wondered whether the struggle was worth it.

Most importantly, it is for those who chose to keep going.

Because through all my interactions with founders and entrepreneurs, I have learned one powerful lesson:

Success does not always belong to the smartest, the richest, or the most connected. More often, it belongs to the person who stays: when things get difficult, when others leave, and when giving up seems easier than moving forward.

That is the story I wanted to tell.

And that is why I wrote The Man Who Stayed.

The message

Dream boldly, build fearlessly, and learn continuously. But above all, have the courage to stay committed to your journey when life gives you every reason to walk away.
